UIGEA Deadline Pushed Till June

It seems that all of the operators and players of online casinos who reside within the United States have a little bit more time on their hands as far as warding off the negative impacts of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is concerned. This is good news for online casino fans for now, but really the implementation of the UIGEA has just been postponed or delayed for six months. A whole lot could change over the course of the next six months, but for right now it is hard to say just what will happen.

The implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was supposed to see all American financial institutions be forced into stopping all processing of transactions that are in any way tied to internet casino gambling. This is a major responsibility and many have proclaimed that this level of control is beyond the reach and power of financial institutions. Some say that the UIGEA is simply not enforceable let alone effective, but nonetheless, thanks to the Bush administration, it is a law that will at some point be recognized for the regulating of online casinos in America.

Of course, there have been some alternatives proposed by people like Representative Barney Frank but the headway he has made has been quite limited so far. It will be interesting to see in the months ahead just how much progress he is able to make. The new deadline for the implementation of the UIGEA is set for the first day of the month of June in 2010. And at that point hopefully there will be a clear solution that Congress will be able to embrace.
