Belgium Casino Policy Is Troubling

It seems that the perky and plucky government of Belgium is continuing on its path toward making their own unique set of rules for online casinos in their country. This is not necessarily in compliance with the rules they initially agreed upon when the European Union treaty rules were established, but those are just pesky little details that they are choosing to ignore for the time being. The European Commission has come down on Belgium’s proposed online casino laws on a number of different fronts, but they are apparently paying no heed to those concerns that have been raised.

What regulations within Belgium are asking for is that the casino operations who wish to run their business within the nation of Belgium are going to be required to be physically based in the country. What the European Commission is intent on pointing out to the Belgium government is that this goes directly against the open market rules that have been in place for a number of years.

Now it seems that the future for online casinos within the nation of Belgium are quite unclear. The Belgian rules that have been laid out on the table require online casino operators to obtain a Belgian license. These do not grow on trees and word on the street is that they are relatively challenging to acquire.

Furthermore, the people who hand out these licenses are known to be quite partial to their countrymen when it comes to giving their approval. And the rules for the European Union treaty indicate that Belgium is under obligation to treat other member nations just like their own in these sorts of situations. It will be interesting to see how this debacle progresses as time goes on.
